IPL Auction 2022: Auction halted as auctioneer collapses

The 2022 IPL Auction, which is a two-day event taking place at ITC Gardenia in Bangalore, got people quite excited. It had barely gotten through 25 names in the big auction when something extremely unfortunate happened in front of millions of viewers around the world. Hugh Edmeades, the 63-year-old British auctioneer for the IPL 2022 auction, collapsed mid-way during the bidding for Wanindu Hasaranga.

The original lunch time was 3 p.m. IST. Following the incident, an early lunch was called, and more information on Edmeades’ condition is awaited.

The auction was halted when RCB made a Rs 10.75 crore bid for the Sri Lankan as the camera caught Edmeades lying flat on the floor at the venue., For now, the auction has been paused.

Hugh Edmeades is a renowned fine art, classic automobile, and charity auctioneer from the United Kingdom. He conducted almost 2,500 auctions over his 35-year career as a Christie’s auctioneer, selling over 310,000 pieces for a total of over £2.7 billion.
